At the opening of the workshop, State Secretary Björn Böhning of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs emphasized the special responsibility that companies have to ensure that their suppliers and subcontractors also respect human rights. Through the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, the Federal Government has articulated its expectations of companies and provided guidance. https://t.co/OhZf5J1uqg

Markus Strangmüller, Corporate Development Sustainability Management at Siemens AG, demonstrated in a keynote presentation—framed as a “journey through time”—how sustainability at Siemens has evolved from risk management to opportunity management.

In four workshops on the topics of responsible supply chains, human rights, labor and social standards, sustainability in procurement, and CSR and sustainability reporting, participants then explored questions regarding opportunities, challenges, and the practical implementation of responsible supply chains.

The Practical Day is a joint event organized by econsense and UPJ and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the vbw – Association of the Bavarian Economy e. V. supported the Practical Day as event partners.
