01/22/2014 | Coca-Cola Installs 1 Millionth HFC-Free Cooler Globally, Preventing 5.25MM Metrics Tons of CO2

The Coca-Cola Company today announced that it has installed its 1 millionth hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-free cooler using natural refrigerant in the marketplace, preventing the emission of 5.25 million metric tons of CO2 over 10 years.  This milestone marks significant progress in the Company’s effort to phase out the use of HFC refrigerant—a well-known contributor to climate change—in Coca-Cola dispensers, vending machines and coolers globally.  Together with its bottling partners, the Coca-Cola system has established a goal that all

E.ON is further expanding its renewables business and has started construction of Amrumbank West wind farm in the North Sea. The first foundation was installed today 37 kilometer northwest of the island of Helgoland.

01/10/2014 | ThyssenKrupp: CO2 from steel mill gases to be converted into valuable chemicals

In collaboration with partners from research and industry, ThyssenKrupp AG is initiating a cross-sector technology transfer project focusing on converting process gases from steel production into valuable chemicals. The electricity for this is to come from renewable sources. “The philosophy behind the project is a broad-based, cross-industry approach. A cross-system solution of this kind will deliver better results than today’s already optimized sector-specific solutions.

Alstom has expressed its commitment to the Warsaw statement on low-carbon transport and sustainable development that was adopted during “Transport Day 2013”, an event dedicated to sustainable, low-carbon transport, that was held during the 2013 UN climate change negotiations (COP19) on November 17th, in Warsaw, Poland.

11/20/2013 | Alstom installing world’s largest offshore wind turbine off the Belgian coast

Alstom has just completed this week-end the at sea installation of its new-generation offshore wind turbine, the 6-MW Haliade™ 150, off Ostend harbour at the Belwind site in Belgium. This is the largest offshore wind turbine ever installed in sea waters. Thanks to its 150-metre rotor (with blades stretching 73.50 metre), the turbine is more efficient since its yield is 15% better than existing offshore turbines, enabling it to supply power to the equivalent of about 5,000 households.

Oliver Bäte, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, picked up one of the first BMWi3s for Allianz. The car will be part of the Allianz management fleet in Munich. Right now, already some 10 percent of the fleet are electric.

10/17/2013 | Alstom inaugurates charging station at Mannheim site

At the Mannheim site, a charging station for electric vehicles was inaugurated today. It shall be used for the on-site transportation of material and passengers. The project is a measure of the eco-friendly site management as part of the sustainability strategy of Alstom and contributes to the development of zero-emission traffic.

10/01/2013 | E.ON to open Kårehamn offshore wind farm in Sweden

E.ON has reached a new milestone in the development of renewables. In the presence of Swedish energy minister Anna-Karin Hatt it officially opened the Kårehamn offshore wind farm near the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea. The wind farm had already been connected to the grid a few weeks ago after only 19 months of construction. Kårehamn has a capacity of 48 megawatts and costs 120 million euros to build. 16 Vestas V112 turbines, each with a capacity of three megawatts, will produce enough electricity to power some 28,000 homes.

06/06/2013 | Alstom helps customers cut CO2 emissions by 207 million tonnes annually

Alstom's commitment to delivering cleaner energy across the world has saved more than the equivalent of three times Austria's annual emissions over the last decade, new figures show. An in-depth analysis of data from 2002-2011 reveals that Alstom's environmental measures, on both new plants and retrofits of existing power facilities, have saved a total of 207 million tonnes of CO2 annually.

  • Volkswagen agrees global environmental targets for its plants

 

As part of its "Think Blue. Factory." Initiative, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has set itself clear targets for the environmentally sustainable positioning of all its plants. By 2018, the environmental impact of all Volkswagen plants is to be reduced by 25 percent. This applies especially to energy consumption, waste volumes, air-borne emissions, water consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
