08/27/2016 | thyssenkrupp initiates project to convert steel mill gases into chemicals

In Duisburg today Johanna Wanka, German Minister of Education and Research, announced funding of more than 60 million euros for the Carbon2Chem project initiated by thyssenkrupp. The aim of Carbon2Chem is to convert process gases from steel production – including the CO2 they contain – into base chemicals. The greenhouse gas CO2 would then no longer be discharged into the atmosphere. The energy required for the conversion process is to come from renewable sources.

09/16/2014 | ThyssenKrupp: New solutions in auto construction - for energy efficiency, electromobility and weight reduction

ThyssenKrupp AG has presented the results of its research project InCar plus. Engineers from the Essen-based company have developed 40 new components and solutions for the auto industry. Customers can benefit from component weight savings of up to 50 percent and cost reductions of up to 20 percent. InCar plus also makes a significant contribution to climate protection: The innovations permit savings of up to eight grams of CO2 per kilometer. Looking at the overall life cycle of a car, including production and recycling, InCar plus represents a saving of 1.6 tons of CO2 per vehicle.

01/10/2014 | ThyssenKrupp: CO2 from steel mill gases to be converted into valuable chemicals

In collaboration with partners from research and industry, ThyssenKrupp AG is initiating a cross-sector technology transfer project focusing on converting process gases from steel production into valuable chemicals. The electricity for this is to come from renewable sources. “The philosophy behind the project is a broad-based, cross-industry approach. A cross-system solution of this kind will deliver better results than today’s already optimized sector-specific solutions.

The 49th edition of the Jugend forscht young scientists competition, being held this year under the motto “Realize Your Idea!”, is underway. Young people with an interest in mathematics, computers, science and technology can once again register for Germany’s best-known competition for budding scientists. ThyssenKrupp is sponsoring the competition at local level in North Rhine-Westphalia and Saarland. “We have been sponsoring Jugend forscht for some time”, states Dr. Reinhold Achatz, ThyssenKrupp chief technologist.
