11/15/2016 | BASF acknowledged as global leader in water management

BASF is one of the world’s leading companies in sustainable water management and has been included in the “CDP Water A” list for the first time. The international non-profit organization CDP (formerly “Carbon Disclosure Project”) announced its latest results at the CDP Global Water Forum held in Morocco on November 15. CDP works with institutional investors with assets of US$100 trillion.

This first 2014 issue of “SD Update – Newsletter Sustainable Development” covers how BASF in collaboration with partners works on improving safety in chemical transportation in Africa and how the company is developing the production of industrial sugars from non-food biomass. The Newsletter also gives insights to the new Global Reporting Initiative G4 Guidelines as well as into BASF’s participation in sustainability conferences.

09/10/2014 | BASF’s product portfolio evaluated for sustainability

In order to better help its customers align environmental and societal aspects with business success, BASF has developed a new process for steering its portfolio based on sustainability criteria. The Sustainable Solution Steering method is used to systematically review and evaluate the sustainability aspects of the approximately 50,000 relevant product applications in the company’s portfolio, which represent sales of €56 billion.

Seas and oceans are the biggest water reservoirs on Earth. Since decades sea water is turned to drinking water by desalination in large scale. In Ghana, West Africa, a modern desalination plant is currently being established to produce  up to 60,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day – enough to supply half a million people.

01/28/2014 | BASF to build new chelating agent plant for more sustainable detergents and cleaners

In order to meet the fast growing global market demand for its innovative chelating agent, BASF will build a new Trilon® M (methylglycinediacetic acid) world scaleplant at Evonik’s Theodore, Alabamasite. The investment will be about $90 million and create around 20 additional jobs. The new production facilityis planned to start up in the second half of 2015.

BASF was today again included in the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World). The company has been recognized for its engagement in risk and crisis management, human capital management and plant biotechnology. The DJSI World is one of the most renowned sustainability indices and represents the top 10 percent of the largest 2,500 companies included in the Dow Jones Global Index.

BASF Corporate Sustainability Relations has relaunched its sustainability newsletter with the new name "SD Update – Newsletter Sustainable Development". The newsletter wraps up relevant SD information from BASF over a period of a few months.
